We've have owned one of these little radios for near 2 years now and have found it to be very useful. It might look like a toy, but it is very powerful and practical. Whether you're kayaking, out on the trail, or surviving a New England winter at home, this little radio comes in very handy. No sun? It takes alot of cranking to get a decent amount of radio time, but you'll be happy to crank it in an emergency weather situation, power outage, etc. The radio and weather station work even better than expected. So far, we have purchased 3 additional radio's for family & friends.
When I first opened this radio, I was disappointed, cuz when it was out of the packaging, it was tiny! I had read the dimensions, but it was smaller than I even imagined. BUT turn it on, and it is mighty! Big clear sound, bright flashlight, and clear reception. What more can you ask for? It is as cute as can be, and will come in handy on the boat. Small is good for another reason, too. It isn't heavy, and won't add alot of weight to the back pack, boat bag, or carryon! Great little radio! Try it!
The Solar Dynamo is a great travel companion. I bought it because it has both solar and wind-up capabilities. Having the wind-up capability means that the radio and the rest of it, can work, even if the sun isn't shining. I would have liked more views of the Solar Dynamo on the LLBean web site. I wanted to see the USB port so that I could envision its use. The ability to connect via USB is a critical aspect of this product.
This little radio does it all! Not only can you get emergency weather channels, you also get regular AM and FM channels, a flashlight, and USB charger for your phone! What more could you ask for during a power outage?
