I love in an area where earthquakes occur and this radio, light, cell phone charger is compact and light and a blessing for those of us who have to be prepared in an emergency. Thank you for carrying such a great item.
This was a Christmas gift to my brother out in Big Bear, California. Not only do they get earthquakes, mud slides and fires they have also been on the receiving end of blizzards and have had power outages due to heavy snows. What better place to test out a compact radio that does not have to rely on electricity?
My brother and his wife report that not only does this little gem have great sound quality, it actually pulled in an AM station in a local valley they can't ordinarily receive with their other radio. My brother used the built in light to find the woodpile to feed the fire that was illuminating their living room during a recent power outage!
One improvement would be to have a built in CD/tape player in it.
All in all, they report that they love the little radio. I'm pleased to have finally found a Christmas gift that people will actually use.
At this great price, I'll get more for the other members of my family for upcoming birthdays.
Thanks for the good quality product, LL Bean and for the speedy delivery to California.
MUCH smaller than I thought it would be but once I got over the shock I tried it out and it's amazingly powerful. (the small size makes it much more convenient!) It holds it's charge forever and when it needs recharged, my grandson runs to grab it so he can crank it up. The flashlight is also pretty bright. My daughter has threatened to steal it for the beach. It would be perfect because the solar panel would keep it running all day long! I think it's gonna be a great Valentines or Easter gift for her and her brother. (I'm thinking in the event of emergencies, not the beach...Lol) Also very sturdy. My grandson has dropped it numerous times with no effect whatsoever. Highly recommended.
Living in the midwest, tornadoes are common, usually in the springtime. I did not have a weather stations, and this has several weather channels, plus the AM/FM capability. The fact that it can use solar power or the windup method is a plus because often power goes off in bad storms. A light on the front is a benefit in power outages too.
