I have owned the older version of this jacket for several years and was very pleased with it. I would have given it a 5/5 stars. The water proof layer on my old one was wearing off so I exchanged it for the "same" jacket and the newer model came. It was nearly a completely different Jacket. The old model was tough, much much thicker than the new model and durable. I agree with other posters that this model is paper thin and will likely tear on your first fishing or backpacking trip. It would be fine for daintily wearing it around town, but would not stand up to rigorous use. Additionally the old model had a substantial storm flap that covered the front zipper utilizing buttons at the top and bottom and then velcro through out the mid section. This provided excellent weather protection since the zipper is not waterproof. The current model has an almost non existent storm flap and I'd imagine that in a driving rain water would come right through the front zipper. The old model had a much larger exterior storm flap on the pit zips and the interior of the pit zips had an interior waterproof storm flap so that if water were to seep through the zipper you would not get immediately wet. That extra flap is non existent on the new model. The old model had an interior waterproof pocket for cell phone or other important items you want to be sure stays dry. The new model has no interior pockets. I owned a large in the old model. Based on the websites fit chart for the new model I had to purchase an XL. The XL fits the same as the L in the old model except the sleeves are way short on the new model. When I lift up my arms to shoulder level the sleeves are around 4" short of my wrists. I will need to return the XL and get an XL tall. I not really sure why they changed a good thing. Maybe they wanted a lighter jacket, but the old model was not heavy and more substantial. Thankfully LL Bean does have an excellent return policy and I will have to try the gortex model to see if it is more durable than this.
Prosterrible likea toilet pap, not good cheap made
This jacket its NOT what it seems on the picture. When I was buying this jacket i thought this jacket is thick and rugged but its NOT. Its very thin material almost like a paper. You can easily rip this jacket against any wooden or rocky surface. Its so thin and weak you can easily put your finger through. This jacket not good for hiking or rock climbing or even just wondering in the forest. The North face jackets is much better. But this jacket only good for walking around your house. Seems are not welded and water can go through after while. I feel like my $100 went to garbage.
This is a nice jacket. Keeps me dry and ventilates well. It's a tad on the pricey side for what you get, but it's well made and does what it's supposed to.
Lightweight, fits true to size to slightly on the slimmer side, hood adjustment is excellent, pit zips are a great feature for a rain jacket when extra ventilation is needed. Has worked well in the rain thus far! Price is a little high for non-Gore Tex fabric but the orange color sold me.
