Waterproof Jacket
PostedDecember 1, 2010
ProsGreat Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
Love it! So far this jacket has cut the cold wind of Northern Arizona and shed the rain of So Cal like water off a ducks back, now if only the front zipper was a double so I wouldn't have to open it to get stuff out of my pockets under it, it would be perfect!

Prospoor value
For the cost of this jacket I could have bought something longer and warmer. I thought the price was reseonable till I received it. Too flimsy for the Oregon coast

ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected, packable
Received this jacket just in time for a week long Atlantic rain storm. Great water proofing and sized right for a fleecy underliner as required. Will be very convenient for travelling due to it's packability. Rain fears this jacket!

Zippers needs work.

All in all, the Storm Jacket seems to provide good value for the dollar... with one glaring exception: the main zipper.
This ridiculously small-toothed, nylon zippers is a fairly big disappointment. The gauge of the main zipper seems particularly disproportionate to it's task. Moving the zipper up and down gives a stiff, binding resistance. But given the diminutive gauge of the zipper, this feedback inspires more fear of damage, than confidence in a solid, secure fastening. Maybe I'll feel better about it after using it for a couple of months
Pocket zips and pit-zips seem to be the same gauge as the main zipper. However, this is appropriate for their task, but just adequately so.
Sizing is sufficient for layering over a medium-heavy fleece. I noted slight, but negligible, restriction around the armpits with this layering. Absolutely fine for casual activity, but might be an issue for tasks requiring significant upper body/arm movements.
As a standalone rain shell it's naturally roomy, but not baggy. I don't know how stuffy it will feel in the warmer months, but there seems to be fairly good attention paid to ventilation.
Plenty of adjustability at the hood, collar, cuffs and waist. It's really nice to chinch the body of the hood so you don't need a baseball cap to keep the front edge from drooping in front of your face!
The shell seems to be made of quality materials, stitching and sealing, inspiring confidence in both rain protection and durability. Yet, it packs down to a surprisingly compact item. Very pleased with this.
