As usual L.L. Bean quality is second to none. This shirt is well made and should last forever. Nonetheless, I returned it for one reason -- it's not a true "trim fit." The shoulders are fine but there's way too much material elsewhere, especially the back and arms. Hoepfully next season we'll see an improved fit for those with athletic builds (along with better colors).
I wish this shirt fit as well as it looks. Unless you have the typical North American male physique you will probably not like this shirt. I usually take a 15.5" neck and wear fitted medium shirts with a 33L sleeve. I'm 6' tall 40" chest and 29" waist, 180lbs. I am no body builder but very fit and trim. This short is too tight in the shoulder area for me and a tent in the mid section. A larger shirt might fit better in the shoulders but would be even larger in the stomach.
My take is that the "trim" fit is an attempt to make the standard shirts a bit more boxy to create the illusion of a trim physique.
If you truly have an athletic build this shirt will not fit very well.
I have two LL Bean Trim Fit Oxford shirts I bought at a retail LL Bean store several years ago, and which I love. I wanted to get more of the same design, and tried ordering two of this shirt. I have to say, I was disappointed. The body of the shirt I received is trim, as advertised. The sleeves are bizarrely bulky, and not even remotely trim. The cuffs of the sleeves are quite loose, and don't have multiple buttons to allow adjustment. I think I'm going to send these back.
These things are nearly indestructible, look great and now fit even better. I have to dress business formal at work and I have them professionally cleaned and pressed and nothing looks better. I've only had to retire a couple early due to stains.
