Very comfortable jacket for all winter purposes. I use it as my main winter coat currently. It's very warm, breathable and not too bulky like most puffy jackets. Can see using it under a shell for very cold days and snowboarding. I believe the hood is made large to fit over a ski/board helmet and the velcro strap in the back of hood adjusts to keep the brim from covering your eyes. Great over all jacket.
I purchased the Ascent PrimaLoft Hooded Jacket at the LL Bean store in DC. At the time, I was on a business trip and needed a warmer jacket for casual wear. This jacket really fit the bill. I am glad I got it. Serves me well now on a full time basis.
The jacket travels great, packs tight and is very warm. The hood is nice (a little loose fitting), but I wished it stowed in the collar. Also, the hood has some velcro strap on the back (pictured) that has no identifiable purpose.
This is a coat built for movement. Jacket is roomy enough for additional layers, which you will not need if you are skiing or hiking. But if you are sitting at a football game that is 30 degrees or colder, you will be cold without the extra layers or a shell over the top. the pocket lining material is toasty warm and jacket is very well built. Great breathability!
I'm amazed how warm, comfortable, yet light this jacket is. When worn underneath the Ascent shell, it is unstoppable by almost any weather. Only improvement I would suggest is to make the hood adjust cords stay on the outside of the jacket.
