This was a birthday gift for my 14 yr old son. He loves the jacket. Pockets inside and out, all very roomy and have zippers. The hood is perfect, roomy enough for a skull cap underneath. He says it's extremely warm. The material is quite nice and the main zipper looks like it'll hold up to a teenager. Thank you LL Bean - it's the only winter jacket he liked that has a hood that mom could afford!
I bought this jacket earlier this summer for hiking use. I have to buy L.L.Beans mens jackets because the arms are made too short in all the womens jackets. I found it to be very windproof and water resistant. With a waterproof shell over it I can wear it all winter. Very Warm and light, packability is a plus.
"For someone 6'3, 185 lbs, and average build, this jacket fits perfectly. For several months, I've been in the market for the right jacket and after trying & returning others "including other LLBean jackets" I found this one to fit me the best.
Pros: - LENGTH: I purchased a medium size to fit correct around my chest. With my length, finding a jacket that actually fits down to my wrists and hips without having to upgrade to a bulkier size is a HUGE plus. - WEIGHT: The jacket feels about 1lb, and almost unnoticeable when wearing. - WARMTH: Wind doesn't cut through this thing. Rain beads right off. This jacket really keeps the heat. - NON-PILLOWY STRUCTURE: I can't stand bubble jackets, but this one is nothing like the usual. Stays flat without the poofiness.
Cons: - HOOD: It has come in handy a few times already, but I think this jacket could look even nicer with a storable/removable/none-whatsoever hood. - POCKETS: The pocket linings feel a bit oversized and frail as if a large pair of keys would bust through.
I'm on the fence about durability. Typical bubble coats are pretty prone to snags and this jacket's material feels no different. However, I have had no issues yet. Overall this jacket feels worth it. The price matches the quality; it has a versatile feel and look and I've had many compliments so far. I'm happy to have this as my everyday coat."
I have been wearing the different versions of this Primaloft jacket since 1996. The sizes of latest version come up small and are cut more more for urban living.
They are very warm and certainly good to -15 Celsius. I have used them as an intermediate layer under a down parka during winter trips to the Arctic. They are also very comfortable to sleep in. The one big disadvantage is that the outer covering tears easily and a single spark from a camp fire burns a hole in it instantly. My previous jacket looks like a patchwork quilt from all the repairs which is OK so long as you don't want to look smart!
