This is about the fourth softshell I've had from L.L. Bean. I like this one, but not the extra ring of fleece at the wrist- it is really, tight, especially if I have a long-sleeeved shirt under the jacket, and the sleeves seem too short, too. The jacket's weight and rain-resistance are perfect; too bad about the short, tight sleeves! I want the old style back! At least I still have one of the old ones to wear!
The Pathfinder fleece jacket is very nice. It is not as tight in the hip area as the Mountain Laurel embossed fleece (I am usually a very standard size XS - 4). It is a bit longer than the Ascent Polartec fleece jacket. It is not as soft or thick as the Ascent, but it blocks the wind and a light drizzle better. It has a great fit; it is shapely without being tight across the chest or hip.
I saw another reviewer mention that dog hair won't stick to the outside, and am happy to second that observation. Great lightweight but warm jacket. I love that it doesn't have any velcro, so I can dress it up with a scarf. Sharp, clean lines. Great everyday jacket.
This is a great lightweight jacket to wear over a light or medium layer of clothing. I bought it in black, and although it looks more like a dark charcoal gray than black, I am still happy with it. It's been a good fall jacket, especially on rainy and/or windy days. Highly recommended!
