I wanted a down parka for my active son, and could not be happier with my choice. This down parka has very nice features (a very cleverly concealed zipper on the detachable hood, inside pocket in addition to the outside pockets), and is really lightweight to wear considering its toasty warmth. My son really appreciates the full parka length; it covers his hips, which adds to overall warmth.
Purchased this jacket for our trip to the Smokies and fortunately got lots of snow. My son went outside to play and started making snow angels and rolling around in the snow. The coat did not hold up. It is not water repellent. I had to bring him inside and dry the coat and his second layer of clothing. The coat however does keep you warm and without the bulk but if your child wants to make snow angels or get into a serious snowball fight, choose another coat. The great thing is that LL. Bean has a excellent return policy and I was able to exchange the coat for something that would hold up.
I thought these jackets would be perfect for my boys, but that quickly changed when they didn't last through the first day of wearing them. I thought the fabric would be a lot more durable (especially for a kid's jacket), and that they would last longer than 1 day. However, I was very pleased with how easy it was to return the items - great customer service! They definitely go by their 100% guarantee!
