This is a very well-made jacket. It's warm, water-resistant, zips easily for a child, and washes and wears well. I bought one two years ago for my son in the size 5-6. He loved it and wore it for two winters. It still looks good. This fall, when he out-grew it, I ordered both the 6X-7 and the 8. The 8 fit better. This year, the jacket runs small, but only in some areas. The chest/shoulders seem smaller and the front torso length is a little short. The back length and sleeve length seem true to size. I would reccommend ordering two sizes, if unsure, and keeping the one that fits best overall. I hope Bean corrects the sizing on this coat, particularily the length of the front. These are the only winter coats offered in colors that seem to appeal to my son. He chose the turquoise and blue two years ago. Turqoise was his favorite color and with the navy interior, it looked very boyish. This year, he chose the sky blue and stainless steel. The gray makes it look masculine on him. I am so glad that Bean offers these kinds of color combinations. With this kind of hand-me-down quality, it's great to have some gender-neutral color choices.
I bought two of these coats - one for my 7 year old son and one for my 5 year old daughter. They really needed something waterproof and quite warm. These coats are just wonderful! Easy to zip up, great coverage, nice colours, super-soft & warm fleece inside the body and the hood, and I love that the sleeves are lined for warmth but not with fleece so that arms can slide in easily. Very high quality!
This has so far proven to be a great jacket. We live in Vermont and are moving to California soon. So we didn't need a super thick jacket. It is warm and not bulky at all. My 5 year old is able to zip it with ease. Would recommend to anyone looking for a jacket that can be worn spring, fall and winter!
