I got lucky and was able to get these boots between sold out status and available...and I couldn't be happier with them. I always get cold toes while out sledding with the kids but my toes stay markedly warmer in these boots than in my classic 8" inch tall Thinsulate Hunting Bean boots (which are 22 years old). I am between a 7.5 and 8 women's medium and the size 8 fit fine, giving me comfortable wiggle room. I usually wear a lightweight sock, but wear thick cabin sock when it's below 20 degrees. I'd say my calves are average for a 130 lb. female and I have room to tuck in my boot leg jeans with no problem at all. Perfect winter boot, very much worth the price. Plus, made in America!!
I got these boots as a Christmas present , and absolutely love them! I had been looking at them since October, but the price was pretty high. Getting them as a gift was just amazing. They are everything I was looking for, tall, warm and waterproof! Exactly what I need for these Maine winters! Thanks LLBeans! I hope these boots are not gone forever. I'm a size 7 and a half but the boot only comes in whole sizes. The advice is to order down. But they didn't have any 7 left, so I got an 8. And they are working great for me. I don't believe LLBeans is going to continue making theses boots so get them quick before they are gone! They are well worth it.
I have been wearing these boots every day, throughout the day, for a few months now. Even though they are rated to negative 10 degrees I can testify that my feet stay warm much lower than that; it has been in the minus 20s here in WI for a few weeks and I haven't been cold in these boots at all. Even yesterday I took the dogs out in minus 10 wearing only the boots (no socks) and my toes were toasty. I love that I can zip them on quickly to take the dogs out and the shearling gives me the option to wear socks or not. With wool socks on I can walk for a few miles and not feel cold. They really are waterproof as well. I have spent many hours snow blowing my large driveway and no slush or snow penetrates the boots (all the way up to the top). It only took about a week of regular wear to break them in and they are very comfortable. I usually wear a size 8, sometimes 8.5 shoe size, but I found the 8 size very tight so I got a 9 and they are perfect. They are also comfortable to drive in and wear around town. The boots easily zip up over thin or tight pants, and even with jeans. If you have very bulky pants they may not zip up all the way. I also pair my boots with the LARGE size stabilcers, not the medium, that LLBean recommends. With these boots and my calf length down LLBean coat I can be outside in sub zero temps without even feeling chilly.....LOVE THESE BOOTS anyone with winter weather should buy them, they are well WORTH the $.
I loved these upon first putting them on, but then as I started to "test" them out and walk in them, it just felt like there was too much space at the top of the ankle area and the area at the top of the foot. The boot seemed to bend odd and bunch up, when I walked. Over time, walking/wearing a long time; this would bug me so I returned them for a different style of LL Bean boot. I love LL Bean, but this product did not fit me well for the reason identified above.
