I haven't had a chance yet to test this on White Mountain trails yet but I have worn it in modestly cold weather and was warm as toast. I intend to wear this jack for cold weather hiking in combo with a waterproof/windproof outer shell. My gut tells that his jacket is, indeed, the lightweight, very warm, compressible jacket I have been looking for. Price was my main factor in buying from llbean. And I was totally impressed with the high number of positive customer reviews.

I'm avid outdoorsman, and for some reason always gone with the synthetics. Finally, I broke down and thought I'd give down a chance. I'm glad I did. This jacket is great! Lightweight, but extremely warm. -10 shoveling the side walk and I was toasty with only a t shirt underneath.
Did a night hike in 19 degree weather and used the jacket at the top while enjoying the view and I was comforatable. Packs very small, and compared to the competition you can't beat the price or warranty.
This jacket is incredible. Extremely light weight but very warm. I don't know how they do it. I keep hoping they'll come out wiht a parka that includes a hood.
This jacket is very warm and light weight. It blocks out the wind and near freezing temps on cold mornings.
I am a slim 5'8" and a medium jacket fits perfectly. It lands at my hips and fits the rest of my torso fine.
However, this jacket is constantly leaking feathers. I returned the first jacket that I bought thinking it was defective. Before wearing the second jacket, I put it in the dryer on fluff cycle six times for twenty minutes with tennis balls hoping to break up the down insulation. This helped a bit but I am still loosing feathers. My car seat has down feathers all over it. I am also picking off the feathers from shirts and sweaters after wearing the jacket.
I am aware that all down jackets regardless of manufacturer will loose feathers but I wasn't expecting this many.
I doubt that this jacket will last many seasons like my L.L. Bean parka.
