I purchased this specifically to go under a shell (from another company) for a ski trip the end of January. We always hit a COLD spell then and I knew I would have to be out in it no matter what as it was a training clinic.
Wow, am I glad I did! The jacket was superb under the shell for skiing and great on its own for walking around the resort and traveling.
I chose L.L.Bean's version of the "down sweater" (I know you don't call it that, but it works that way) for its price, look, AND the fact that it does not leak feathers like all the others. Also, it looks more jacket like for the times I use it alone.
I'm a ski patroller and volunteer with an adaptive sports organization. I will get tons of use out of this!

Lightweight, incredibly warm, stylish..... I find myself planning my daily outfits around this jacket. I brushed up against sharp metal end cap in a retail store and immediately thought my coat had ripped and it did not. Not a scratch. Material feels delicate but it is resilient. I can fold this jacket up and put it in my gym bag or suitcase without added weight. Thrilled that Bean has designed contemporary outerwear to compete with brand P and brand NF. I need petite and neither of those come in petite sizes. Only suggestion is a removable hood and a longer length option next year?

I really love this jacket. I have had it for 2 weeks now and I have worn it every day since. It has absolutely beautiful color and it is very warm. The fleece lined pockets are large enough to fit your phone in and have your hands in, plus they keep the cold out. Others say the sleeves are short but I got a small and they were fine. They go down to wear the are expected. It stays puffy and nice and doesn't ever lose its fluff. I would recommend it to anyone. I am a first time snow go-er and this jacket was perfect for the experience. I STRONGLY recommend it!
