I bought this jacket for my preteen. She really liked the style because it's not at all bulky and squishes down to nothing in her backpack (you could squeeze it into a large purse). At first glance I thought no way was it going to be warm enough but it fluffs up some and she has been plenty warm, though our tempuratures have been in the 30's. We got her a fleece to go under it for colder weather.
The reason I did not give this a 5 is that it got small rip within a week - probably on her locker. I also wonder with colder temps how not having a built in hood will work out. Luckily, in Wisconsin having cool knit hats are "in" so she's been carrying that to school for when needed.
She says the pockets fit her gloves and her hat (though it looks bulky in my opinion). The bottom has a draw to keep air from flowing in.
Great Jacket! I purchased it for my teenage daughter who looks for "compact warmth" (not bulky). 850 down fits the bill. Two minor changes I'd suggest are: 1" longer sleeves. and an outer fabric with a bit of a sheen or a little less dull/flat looking. Everything else is great.
This is THE warmest jacket I've ever owned. All the benefits of warmth and wind resistance from the down without walking around like the Michelin man! It weighs absolutely nothing and compacts into a nice tight little down pillow folding into a built in pocket. Great for travel!
Ordered this jacket for the appearance that it was fitted and becoming, however the fit is very boxy and not flattering on a slender frame. 5' 4", size 2 top but Size 4-6 hips, so ordered a small, and the jacket looks like a bubble when donned. Returned this unfortunately. Disappointed, as the material was high quality, red garnet color was brilliant, the jacket was very light-weight and very warm.
