I have one, and then I bought one for my mum - and she hasn't taken it off! Just thinking about getting a second in another color (I bought both in red). i wish there was a vest option.
I have bought 9 or 10 of these Ultralight 850 Jackets since L.L.Bean introduced them about 3 years ago. The first was for me, and I continue to use it as soon as winter returns to Minnesota. The rest have been gifts for family and friends. That, in itself, is testimony to my confidence in this fine product and to the pleasure it affords to those I love. Its virtues are obvious: excellent warmth, virtually weightless, and not at all bulky. The Ultralight 850 Jacket is not, by itself, warm enough to conquer the full blast of a Minnesota winter. But no garment of this size and type ever could be. For that, one must don layers, covered by a full-length, hooded coat ... and then plod around under the weight of all that protection. But the Ultralight 850 is perfect for our shoulder seasons, offering great comfort in temperatures above 0 degrees Fahrenheit. I have heard only a couple of minor criticisms from those who received these jackets as presents from me. First, that its surface covering may not be tough enough to withstand gouging from branches when plunging through woods. Second, that the down seems to lose some of its loft after washing. Otherwise, this is a perfect garment.
Bought the yellow and couldn't be more disappointed. It fits, is lightweight and I know it would be comfortable. Unfortunately, the outer fabric is a little sheer and the down isn't white. The jacket looks stained and dirty as the darker down shows though unevenly throughout the jacket. What's worse, the spots move as the down shifts. Not happy...it's going back.
