I buy these each year for my husband. He loves them; wears them all year round and we live in the south. He says they are the most comfortable boxers he's ever worn AND hopes LL Bean will always keep them in their inventory. The price is very reasonable, and they can't be found here. However, there is one issue; the fabric outlasts the elastic in the waist, which eventually becomes frayed.
The flannel is very soft and the shorts are quite comfortable. Although I am a Large waist, I ordered an XL size because past shorts in Large have been a wee bit tight. These are anything but, the XL waist is a true XL waist. If you usually wear Large then I would recommend that you order the Large size. Appears to have plenty of thigh room.
This is my 4th and 5th (they come 2 to a package). The 1st 2 were great. The 3rd pair were a new and improved design and were not nearly as comfortable. These are the same as the original and great.
