I have recommended these to friends and others numerous times. They are very comfortable once worn a few times. I always wear a size 8 medium width in regular shoes and these run true to size. Wear thick socks with them.
I am a geologist and hiker/camper, and have worn these on every field trip, day trip, and camping trip since I bought them in Octoger 2012. I wanted a Gore-tex boot and was looking to avoid the obnoxious "sneaker boot" look in addition to a boot that offered ankle support and non-slip on dangerous rock faces. The uppers are scuffed but the the soles are like new. These boots never slip except on deposits like gravel grus or shale chips where footing is bad.
They are heavy but I don't mind because they are solid and secure. My one complaint is that being leather the cloth insides retain moisture, especially if you leave your socks in them during a frozen Sierra night. Always let them "air out." I can't vouch to their waterproof characteristic but as the tongue and boot are one piece so they probably are waterproof.
The boots are beauitful, well-made, comfortable, and give me peace of mind when hiking.
These boots are sooo comfortable! I usually wear 7W, had to exchange for the 7 1/2W which is perfect. I am still breaking them in, it's the high ankle part that I'm getting used to. I've had them a few days & have taken lots of dog walks already. They have great traction & are really perfect. I had a gift card & have had my eye on them for awhile. I will enjoy these for many many years!
I have a wide foot and ordered these after returning the bean boots in women's wide as those were too narrow. I usually take a size 11W or 11.5W, ordered these in 11W. These boots fit wonderfully! I wore them for an hour hike through the snow today, and while I wish I had gaters to keep the snow from entering at the ankle, the boots were 100% waterproof and very comfortable. Very happy with my purchase.
I was pleasantly surprised by how great these boots are. I was looking for winter boots to walk around the neighborhood in the snow. These fit the bill perfectly! They are warm, have decent arch support, and are wide enough and long enough for my feet. I got the 9 Wide. I usually buy size 9 wide, and these are plenty roomy even for thick wool socks. They accommodate my bunion and don't pinch my feet width-wise. They have quite good traction, although on solid ice, it's still possible to slip, so be careful there.
