I bought these boots when I was fresh out of high school, 17 years ago! I have worn these boots to do just about anything and everything. I have used them to hike the Whites, I've used them to hike the mountains in Western Maine, and I've used them as my winter boots while attending the University of Maine. I use them now to work around my house and these boots have seen a lot of abuse. They are still just as comfortable (though they don't look quite so nice...) as the day I bought them. The Gore-Tex lining still keeps out water, which is remarkable considering the age of my boots, and just can't bear to part with them. I would highly suggest these boots to anyone who's looking for a great boot that will last. These were definitely worth the initial price.

I am a park ranger in northern Ohio. This means hot humid summers, frigid wet winters and everything in between. Based on prior reviews I ordered a pair of these boots. They are the BEST I've owned as a park ranger. I have had Vasque (Red Wing) and New Balance and LL Bean's Cresta Hikers and by far the most comfortable, stable and supportive boot I've owned. They are aesthetically nice and professional looking, durable and comfortable right out of the box. These boots have my Park Rangers seal of approval!!

I just returned this July from a 10 day trekking trip in the Indian Himalayas and was very pleased with these boots. I bought them in November and wore them periodically over the winter, but they required very little breaking in. On the trek, the soles gripped wet rocks during multiple river crossings, and prevented slippage on loose earth and gravel on steep inclines, both ascending and descending. I wore Smartwool trekking socks with them and my feet were never sore. My only recommendation would be to add a tough rubber piece over the toe as the boots got badly scuffed ( see attached photo). However, I have since cleaned them and applied some polish and they look almost new!

I waited a year to write this review to see if I liked these boots as much a year later than I did when I first bought them. Guess what, I like them even more! These were comfortable right out of the box. They are very good quality and continue to assist my ankle that is weak due to any injury. Due to my injury for the last 6 months I have worn these boots everyday and can not rate them high enough. They are so comortable and sturdy. A five it is!
