Perfect fit right out of the box. I used them on a long hike within days, and they required no breaking in. They are comfortable, grip the trail perfectly, and they are a perfect fit.
This was an outstanding boot for the price before a sizable increase, but still well worth the money. I have a wide forefoot from running, and wide hiking boots are a real chore to find-Vasque carries them but they a reasonably narrow fits for EE. I found these fit very comfortably This is a heavy boot, designed for rugged trails, and for major foot and ankle support. Work well for heavy climbs and backpacking. Not needed for your basic day hikes or well maintained, level trails. They will definitely require breaking in, but still are comfortable out of the box. I hiked backcountry trails in the Grand Canyon in these and they did a great job over very rough, unmaintained, rugged and steep surfaces. Because they are leather you will have to pay attention to maintaining them-keep them well oiled with good shoe cream and waterproofing, and if you anticipate marching through mud all day would consider boot better designed for that. It has performed well in cold (-5 deg, cold for North Carolina) conditions but not an extreme winter boot Regarding quality-boot is made in central europe-not italy, but many premier boot makes done in Romania/other spots, and workmanship appears very good on my pair
Not pleased with these Crestas. The Italian made were a much better boot. This is my sixth or seventh pair. The price increase was a surprise, with poorer quality. Love LL Bean though
