My Cresta Hikers covered many rugged miles of streams, forest roads and trails in Vermont. They were pushed to the limited as I carried a chainsaw and a thirty pound saw pack to clear roads and trails after Hurricane Irene.
These boots have a short break in period. They are really comfortable. I wish LLBean would sell the inserts of these boots as I have worn mine out.
The waterproofing is great. I hiked through mud to my ankles and rock hopped up streams and they kept my feet dry.
The fit seems right on.
After a lots of rugged use, there is a slight split forming between the sole and the leather. I purchased these boots in the spring of 2011. I thought I would get a bit more use out of these boots before they showed signs of wear. The leather still looks like new. High marks for the constructions in that regard. The tread is also starting to wear on these on boots.
Bottom line: I am tough on gear, these survived a harsh season with minor signs of wear. I will most likely buy another pair.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, performs great!
These are the best hiking boots I've had, and I've had a lot! Just talked my brother-in-law into a pair after we climbed in the snow & his feet were wet & cold. My feet were dry and warm, & the traction was great...as usual. I love the fact that good size and width options exist, and are true to what I consider universal. Can't say enough good! Just buy them, & years from now you'll still be happy.
ProsDurable, Great Value, Comfortable, Performing as Expected
Both comfortable and supportive, tough and attractive, waterproof, durable, reliable, the whole business...
IF ONLY they had a toe guard. Maybe I'm a toe-dragger (!?!), but I finally wore out my Crestas from external wear in the toe. A tough, plain, hard rubber toe-guard would make these the perfect backpacking boot.
