I hate those boot reviews that say, "Fit perfectly right out of the box," which is meaningless if you don't know what kind of foot the reviewer has. I have a hard to fit foot, moderately wide forefoot, narrow heel, high arch, moderate volume. Wide sizes feel great in the forefoot, but my heel slops around too much. I decided to try these in the regular width, hoping that my heel would be more secure and that the all leather boot would eventually break in so that my forefoot would be happy. I was right on both counts. After a prolonged and patient break-in I have a comfortable boot of excellent quality. My foot is secure and I'm no longer dying to get my boots off after a long day under a pack, as was the case with many other boots I've owned. I resisted getting a Gore-Tex boot for many years, thinking that Gore-tex would mean hot, sweaty feet here in the Southwest, where you typically don't need that level of waterproofness anyhow. I shouldn't have worried - these boots breathe as well as any leather boot I've owned. And for too many years I resisted paying this much for a boot. Dumb, dumb, dumb! Sure, you can get a pretty good boot for two-thirds this price, but you'll get only a couple of years use from it. These Crestas are going to last a long, long time, proving once again that quality is cheaper in the long run.

I tried several other boots before ordering this one. In each case, either the fit or the style was just not right for me. I wanted a good looking, comfortable, supportive, water-proof boot. I am glad that I ordered these from Bean. Fit great right out of the box, little break in needed, stylish, comfortable. For those who have complained about the laces, here is a tip--replaced them with parachute cord, found at any army-navy store or ordered online in multiple colors.

These boots replaced my 26 yr + old Danner boots that also have a gore tex side panel. Time to hang those up since these are my new favorite boots. I am a 12 1/2 shoe size and these size 13 boots fit me perfectly. Excellent arch, toe, heel and ankle support, not too heavy, breathable, only thing I am left wanting are some really good braided, waxed laces. The standard laces slip too much, requiring retying too frequently. These were a gift from my mom - thanks mom!

This is my second pair of Cresta hiking boots, the first pair lasting 15 years. Used only for backpacking and some hunting, these boots have taken me to the depths of the Grand Canyon and back, to the wilds of Alaska, the lost coast of California and numerous places in and along the Colorado Plateau. As others have attested to, these boots fit my feet right out of the box and I have never had a blister or developed a hot spot. They've kept my feet dry, given the support I've needed to carry a heavy load and are durable. There are plenty of other boots out there that have a good name and deservedly so. I've tried a few. But for me and the trails I've walked, these fit the bill.
