Received the jacket as a gift and had fond memories of a similar jacket from years ago. Hard to believe the temperature rating given for the jacket from just looking at it, but it is accurate. Weatherproof and with a scarf or neckgaitor , draft resistant also. Size "L" is roomy enough for layers and not too baggy with just a shirt. Classic color that I'm looking forward to seeing age after washing and usage. No doubt a good buy, especially when on sale.
My father purchased this field coat over 30 years ago and has used it with rigor. My father passed the field coat down to me and it looks as good as the day it arrived in the mail from Beans when I was a kid. It is such a cool coat, my teenage son has worn it everyday since I got it and now claims the coat as his!
The wool liner makes this a very warm coat and is removeable to make it a true 3 season jacket. The construction is top drawer and the jacket will last forever!

First off, I really like this coat. It matched the description and the sizing is perfect. I have used it on many occasions so far, including several bow hunting trips.
I bought the brown coat size Large Tall.
Its greatest strengths are:
- Classic Design. I love functional AND fashionable clothing. - Removable wool liner. - Durable. I hacked through the woods bow hunting this year and this coat stood up very well. My best outdoors work coat ever. - Lots of big pockets. There are 4 big pockets on the front, plus a small (zippered) breast pocket. Plenty of room for everything you could possibly carry.
The only downsides for me were:
- No zipper. This is a classic design, and the original did not have a zipper, but this makes the coat slightly cooler than it would be with a zipper. There are only 3 buttons on the front, plus a fourth collar button. When you sit for many hours in a tree stand like I did, gaps can easily open up letting in cool air. This is really only a problem when it gets below freezing and/or you are sitting and not moving around a lot. If you are doing a lot of work standing up or hiking, walking, etc. (and getting hot) you shouldn't have a problem. I wore a sweater underneath and was fine. - Open pockets. The pockets are very big and easily accessible on the front, but they don't have any cover. Brush, leaves, or what have you easily fall in. Also, there are no pockets INSIDE the coat. Again, minor problem.
Overall, this is a great coat that I would recommend, and as with virtually everything from LLBean, a great value. Many other similar field coats from other vendors are easily double or triple the cost.
Years ago I had an unlined Field Coat that was too heavy on cool days and not warm on cooler ones. This model with the removable lining provides the right choices. Tall-Large sizing fits my 6'2"/195lb frame with ample room for moving and additional layering. The zipper-pocket is too small for any imaginable purpose I have, so I removed the upper-edge stitching; now the pocket is deep enough for the iphone. Chocolate color is distinctive and compatible. Shipping was quick. A good buy for our colder than usual winter.
