Overall, this is a fine garment. Styling is very good and materials are top quality. Warm, but not hot. Previous field and barn coats had zippers and slant pockets, which are a benefit missing here. The only negative is the volume of the coat. It seems to be made for obese men not normal or slim. The front is baggy and hangs like drapes. A "trim" cut would be most welcome.
I finally lost enough weight to justify a new winter coat. It took about 2 minutes to realize that I had made an excellent choice. This coat is fantastic. Warm enough for winter wear yet not too heavy nor bulky. It is comfortable to wear and when the weather turns warmer I can remove the wool liner for spring and fall wear.
It fits perfectly. I am 5'9" and 215 and I selected an XL. It looks great and I am totally satisfied with it.
Received the coat about a week ago. I have worn it 6 times in this time frame and found it quite warm when wearing a vest under it. The weather has been in the 20's and up to 40 degrees. I felt very comfortable walking for an hour or so each time out. It is very well made and comfortable. I would recommend this coat priced right for the quality.
Love this jacket! Love how rugged it is. I have worn it in our cooler fall weather, from 50 down to about 25 or so. I have NOT worn this is the rain or any precipitation yet. Looking forward to trying this out this winter. I purchased the jacket as a general outdoors jacket-something I can take my walks in town in, or take it into the woods hiking, birding, etc. As to those who complained about buttons and pocket locations: First, buttons simply work. I prefer buttons over zippers. Buttons vent a little better (layering under this jacket will definitely be used in bitter cold), and they dont freeze. I will agree that the buttons do seem to be sewn on a little too flimsy, but I can reinforce those myself. As to the pockets-they arent really meant for handwarmer pockets. They DO, however, hold a lot of stuff. The breast pocket is too small for almost anything (I put my keys in there), but the other 4 work well for gloves, snacks, etc. Overall, I highly recommend this jacket. The liner, though thin, works surprisingly well. And, the quality is there.
