I haven't yet given this jacket to my son, but I am hoping he will like it. The only thing I would say is the color is a bit faded looking. I ordered the Olive for him, and it was not a dramatic olive. There was not a lot of contrast between the coat and the collar. But it looks like a good quality coat, and warm with the wool lining.
My first field coat was bought in the late 60's. I had it for 25 years until it was in shreds. Loved the coat and expect the new one will give me many years.
I am satisfied with the fit, true to size. Removable wool lining is a good idea.

I bought my Field Coat over 10 years ago and it still looks and feels great. It's held up well over the years and I always get people asking where did I get that coat from. It's perfect for the fall, early winter and spring time of year.The only thing that I wish is that it was a little longer in length but other than that L.L. Bean sure knows how to make a coat!!
