Love it!

I ordered this coat for my husband for Christmas, and we both love it. It looks nice enough to wear out, yet is also great for working outside, etc. My husband says it is very warm also! Definitely a keeper.

At Long Last
PostedJanuary 10, 2009
Finally, after 19 years of marriage, my husband agreed to accept a new barn coat as a present. I'm not sure when he purchased his first barn coat, but he already had it when we married. I think his original one was stone colored at one time, but it has seen so much use and misuse, that the color has become unidentifiable. Everything else on the coat is still in great condition! Which was, of course, the reason why he did not want a new one. My husband gets very attached to things and his barn coat was no exception. It has seen him through all 4 seasons for many years (with and without the liner), hunting trips, camping trips, yard work, Boy Scout events, and 5 children. I think some of the stains on the coat were contributed by our kids.
So this year, 19 years after I met the coat, I finally put my foot down -- by getting the kids to pitch in and purchase a new barn coat as a Christmas present (how could he refuse them?). And he loves it! He's worn it almost every day since Christmas. He doesn't talk about it all that much, but I did find the old one stuck down in a storage area in the basement. Its not quite out of the house yet, but we'll give him some time.

field coat

The coat arrived on time and in perfect shape. The fit was as advertised, plenty of room to move around and work. I like the pockets, plenty of room for all your things but it would be nice to have an inside pocket. It was not as worm as I thought it would be, I should have gotten the warmer liner. I think a zipper instead of buttons would be a great addition.

Original Field Coat with wool/nylon liner
PostedJanuary 8, 2009
The finish on this coat is more rugged and dusty than I expected and not particularly in keeping with the online images.
I ordered my coat in olive. Be advised - the online images of olive show lighter, higher contrast buttons and a darker contrast on the collar and cuffs than the actual coat, which is pretty much all the same shade of olive - with very dark brown buttons. Otherwise I would have given the coat five stars despite the rough finish.
I would highly recommend shoppers who're looking for contrast go for the saddle - but that's not a good color for me. The construction is absolutely top-drawer. The dual pocket treatment is attractive, comfortable and easily accessed; practical for a coat of this design.
This is a lighter weight coat than the liner's appearance suggests, so in cold weather you'll need to layer with a sweater and scarf - which will look great in filling the coat's lines out more fully.
If you plan on wearing this coat for casual business wear/travel, around town wear and in the field, it is well suited. On the other hand, if you want that high-end barn coat look that is more stylish, more dressy, while still being ruggedly handsome I'd go for the Town and Field model.
I plan on purchasing the Town and Field as well to wear over long sleeve shirt/tie casual business outfits where you don't want to don a more formal great coat or driving coat. The Town and Field would be a more coordinated combo, whereas the Original Field would be too casual for a tie and casual dress shoes.
If you're like me, and want a coat that'll also look great with a western hat, boots, walkking around rifle/upland shotgun and a single action revlover - this is your coat!!!
You can't have too many coats, even in Southern California, and especially if you travel a lot on business. For no-tie meeting days the Original Field Coat will make the right impression, definitely better than your basic ski outwear! The understated quality really stands out in that regard and no one will assume you shop at a big box outlet for your wardrobe ; - )
