I buy a lot of things from LLBean, including clothes, shoes, home furnishings, luggage, etc. I have been pleased for many decades with their quality and service. So when I needed a good casual to wear with jeans, I ordered these Blucher Mocs. The length was right but the width was way off--very swimmy, even with the laces pulled taut (and doing that made the shoe not very attractive). Also, the leather is matte and cheap-feeling, not lustrous as the photo shows. I was very disappointed in the look, fit, and feel--very unusual for LLBean. I write this review only to warn others off and also in hopes that LLBean will refashion the shoe to fit properly and look like the photo. As a side note, my feet are average width; the 9B in this shoe was way off.
I LIVED in my 90's Blucher;s moc's until they came to an untimely, cruel demise committed by my male cat. My awesome shoes were gone, something I have yet to forgive my cat for. I work in a business/casual setting and needed new shoes. Ooh! Ooh! Blucher Moc's! YES!
So I bought a pair online. I ordered a 9 wide, they didn't fit so I re-ordered a size 8, same thing. Argh! You see, I was unknowingly ordering men's shoes. Oops. I called the call center at Bean and discussed my problem in great length, with a wonderful, patient, knowledgeable woman. She suggested a different size and width in a women's shoe. The shoe is a thick but oddly moldable leather. They are wickedly awesome shoes that accommodate my various foot problems, and fit like a glove. SO comfortable.
The only critique I have is to shorten the almost comical shoelaces. They're "waxy" and hold a knot very well but the loops hang over the sides. Still better than Boat Shoe laces that are thick leather and harder to tie and keep a knot. But you know what? I really don't care. I got my slipper-like Blucher moc's finally, and I could not be happier.
Lesson you could all learn from my experience...take the time to phone Customer Service and work with them to find the best size for you BEFORE you order. Good luck and Happy Walking!
Like many others, I have been wanting these shoes again for years now. I have a bad knee, ankle and plantars fascitis, so I needed a comfortable walking shoe that was not a pair of cowboy boots or sneakers. My husband bought these for me for my birthday. I measure a 6 1/2, but actually fit in a size 6 (I'm convinced shoes have gone the way of vanity sizing. Heordered a size 6 and when I first put them on, my toes hit the shoe box and I was convinced I would have to return them. However, I knew LL Beans AMAZING return policy, so I thought I would wear them around the house and within a few hours, they were perfect. The quality is great, but I was very disaapointed to learn that they were no longer made in the USA. My 2 pairs of bean boots are and I figured that since this shoe, like the bb boots and totes are a L L Bean classic, these would be to. I hope that they can find a US maker, because I would have been willing to pay more as these are pretty mmuch lifetime shoes.
I looked everywhere to find these shoes like I had bought years ago. I really like them, although I found they run a little smaller than my normal size, but because of the free credit card shipping, it all ended not costing me more.
