The Hudson Bay Blanket is an icon for a reason, and it's not just the striking graphics. As someone who loves Canada, I have been familiar with the HBB for many years. However I could never afford it while I was working in Canada. Imagine my joy at finding it in the LL Bean catalog while I was looking for a new king size blanket. This blanket is wide enough to cover the whole bed with room to spare. It is also incredibly soft in texture for pure wool. Most importantly though, when used as an insulating layer between a sheet and a top coverlet it is just the right degree of warm: not too hot, not too cold. I love, love, love this blanket. I only wish I'd bought one sooner.
We've had our Hudson Bay blanket for a year and I am very happy with it. My daughter likes the heaviness of the blanket and says it helps her relax and fall asleep. While this blanket is warm, it does not provide enough warmth on its own. We have found that layering it between another blanket and her comforter do the trick. It does a lovely job of holding body heat within the bed, but independently, doesn't seem to bring as much warmth as we thought it would. It is very generously sized- so much so that's it's almost challenging to tuck under the edge of the mattress, but this is hardly a complaint; an observation, really. I've read many times that these blankets do best with little washing/dry leaning and this is another reason to layer the blanket and wash the other linens instead.
This is my second year of owning this blanket and I am very pleased with it. In the fall I use it as a top layer with flannel sheets, and in winter I put a down comforter over it for extra warmth. It is lofty and not too heavy for layering. I believe I will get decades of use from it as it is well made. One word of warning: cats seem to love it as well. Mine is thrilled to sleep on it!
Bought the full/queen and it was much to large for my full size bed, returned it for a twin size. If the twin size was an inch or maybe even a half inch wider it would be perfect. As is we can make it work. It doesn't keep me as warm as I thought it would, I have a top sheet, the Hudson Bay Point and patchwork quilt on the bed and my feet still get a bit chilly. Also the sides seem to be finished off but not the ends. But all in all I am happy with my Hudson Bay Point blanket and wifi hand it down to my grandson someday, hopefully a part of history he will enjoy and pass on to his children.
