We bought two of these about 6 years ago. Loved, loved, loved them, and always stored them away in the winter. When we pulled out the 1st one this year, it had rotted on one side. Then a couple of weeks later, the other one fell apart. As always, LL Bean stands by their product. The new ones we received reportedly fold up for off season (still haven't figured that one out). When I mentioned to a carpenter friend about the new directions instructing not to leave the chairs on lawn, his response was, "isn't that what Adirondack chairs are all about?" He looked at the old and new, and commented that the wood wasn't pressure treated, so he wasn't surprised they failed and unfortunately will likely fail again.
We love the looks of our Adirondack chairs. We have had several over the years. They are not particularly well made or maybe finished. They are assembled and then painted. Where ever there is wood on wood the it leads to mildew and rot. They always honor the LL Bean guarantee, so they replace them when they fail. I just wish they could be finished better. We just got two more and they are beautiful.
I bought three chairs and three footstools in 2006. One chair has completely rotted in several spots and the wood is splitting & starting to rot on the other two chairs and all the chairs are wobbly. I would like to return these chairs but based on reading several other reviews, am very reluctant to get replacements, except I now have 3 footstools with no chairs.
I purchased 2 of these chairs about 3-4 years ago. Despite storing them under cover during the winter months, they have totally rotted and fallen apart. Not what I would expect from LL Bean. I am getting ready to order the more costly all weather Adirondacks as replacements. Hope they stand up longer!
