I bought 4 of these chairs in the early 1980's and they're still going strong. They've been placed on a covered porch year 'round and just require cleanups a few times a year.
After close to 30 years, one of the back slats on one of the chairs failed, as the screws were rusted out. I couldn't remove them, so LL Bean graciously replaced the entire back of the chair -- AT NO COST! The chair design has changed a bit over the years, so I made a few adjustments, replacing the support bars in the new back with longer ones to accommodate the older design. Now it's as good as new, ready for a few more years of life.
When you're ready to repaint these, recommend you disassemble them and replace the hardware to avoid the inevitable rust. With some common sense care these will last a long time.
I have had these chairs for years. They are summer to me. We recently moved to a new old house with a wonderful front porch and I couldn't wait to buy bright red chairs to match my red front door. We find time every day to sit on the porch with the dogs and watch the world go by. This is what summer is all about!
I have had these chairs in white for a few years now. Originally, they looked great and I was very happy with them. Each year they have been stored out of the elements, however in a very short time they have started to peel everywhere and are hard to clean. I would NOT purchase these PAINTED chairs again. Perhaps the natural wood would have better results. Disapointed that these chairs will need to be scraped and repainted in such a SHORT amount of time!
