Purchased two classic wooden chairs as a Christmas gift for my wife. Shipment arrived on time as assured by LLB. Assembly was relatively quick and easy. All parts were included. The printed instructions were good, but could be more descriptive. Overall quality of the chairs is good with a comfortable design.
I wish I could rave about these chairs, but I'm disappointed with them. We were trying to replace our 15 year old "Adirondack" chairs that have sat through salt and sun for years. While the LL Bean chairs were easy to assemble, the quality does not compare. When you sit in them they squeak and make "creaky" noises. They are not nearly as comfortable as the backs are flat rather than curved and the backs are not as tall as the chairs we have. So, you can not lay back in them and have your head on the chair. I think we paid about the same for the locally made set of chairs 15 years ago and although they have some loose nails, the quality is much nicer, more solid and much more comfortable. I expected the best from LL Bean. I should have done more research, paid closer attention to measurements and Shopped Locally!!!!
The chairs look really nice but the red fades quickly from being outdoor year-round and the wood rotted due to cracks caused by weight stress and exposed to the outdoors. Our chairs rotted at same location on anterior panel of the seats where panels are screwed to the bottom frame. Fortunately, LLBean always provide excellent customer service and sent us replacement parts. We have ordered with LLBean for over 20 years and will continue to do so.
Our adult kids gave us two of these chairs and one of the folding side tables last year for Christmas. We have kept the furniture on a partially covered deck, well off the ground. It has been a very dry year here in the Northeast, so being in a constantly wet environment has not been a problem. But the paint is chipping off and the chairs are wobbly unless the hardware is constantly tightened. Sometimes the nuts fall off the bolts and we have to go searching for them. We know they were not cheap and feel badly because we know our kids paid quite a bit and will feel badly to know we didn't keep their gift. But the chairs are going back. These are definitely not up to L L Bean standards and I am very surprised that the company continues to market them.
