LLBean needs to have an athletic cut alternative. The workmanship is good quality but the sizing is for portly. I'm a 42R with a 36 waist. The jacket is made for a 46 waist so I have to have it altered for $75 (rush order). Previous reviewers suggested one size smaller. I tried that with a 40R. It was snug under the arms and still ballooned out in the lower back.
So many have gone into the sizing issues. Yes, this runs bulky (maybe it's the relative stiffness of the material that accentuates it), big and long in the arms. After ordering several, we saw there was a noticeable lack of consistency between the same item in the *exact* same size. To finally get a good fit, we called customer service and they asked the product "pickers" to select the one on the shelf that most closely matched the inches size we needed. Success!
I was, frankly, pretty surprised that LLBean's customer service people provided this much support for an admittedly inexpensive jacket...
Beyond that, this is a jacket that has pleased all "my" men, regardless of their age or style predilection. The college student liked the casualness of the green one to wear with jeans as well as khakis, the older son says his blue one provides just enough "dress up" for his mid-20's lifestyle and my husband has two as his go-to jackets to add a bit of style to his everyday khaki and button-down shirt favorites.
It would get five stars except the fit issue was pretty frustrating.
