It took me several months to decide whether to purchase this bed--especially after I read an earlier not-so-nice review. I work for the Forest Service in a very remote part of Northern California so it is imperative that the bed not only suit my needs but that it is of good quality (so I don't have to go to the trouble of returning it). I'm happy to say that I am not disappointed. It's a beautiful bed (I ordered the black finish, queen sized), is easy to put together, and looks great once assembled. I was able to assemble the bed, by myself, in a little over an hour. (The only minor issue I encountered was that the mattress frame parts were not wrapped when shipped in their separate package. Fortunately, they weren't as scratched or marred as I thought they might be for having jangled around loosely. I should tell you that the headboard and footboard were both wrapped well.)
After about a year of use, the bed is great for sleeping, not for reading or leaning upon the headboard, which seems an afterthought. It is not part of the framing, merely bolted on the bottom of the mattress frame. The bed cannot be mpved by pushing or pulling the headboard, which would bend or break off at the bottom if overstressed by leaning against, pushed or pulled as if to slide the unit. Previous wooden headboard bed was attached in 2 places on each side of the frame and was very solidly part of the structure...and a very comfortable lean to reading spot. Seated and leaning against this headboard causes an uneasy unstalble reluctance to use for anything other than sleeping.
