I used to have no difficulty finding jeans that fit. I wore what was, once upon a time, a size 8 and I always bought size 8. But consistent sizing is a thing of the past and I have, in recent years, worn sizes 2, 4, 6, and 10 as well, with no more than a 5 lb. fluctuation in my weight. I found the customer reviews for LL Bean jeans very helpful, especially the comments about products that were true to size. That was a comment made several times about these jeans, so I double-checked my measurements and ordered the size that corresponded. I have been so frustrated with jeans-shopping that I was surprised to find that they did indeed fit. And they fit after washing and they haven't (so far) stretched out or shrunk. I was really pleased.
I really like these jeans because they are the only ones I can find with no stretch in them, but the waist is too high and tight. I have to order a size 6 instead of a 4 so the waist is comfortable enough, but then the legs are big. I wish LL Bean would make a 100% cotton jean in either the classic or favorite fit.
Nobody but LL Bean seems to make "traditional" jeans like they used to--orange flat-felled seams, grommet at the waist, deep front and back pockets, and quality that'll last for years. My only negative comment is I had to get a size larger than the charts indicate because the rise is an inch shorter than some other brands, so the "classic" waistband lands somewhat below my natural waist. That's in style now, anyhow. (The ones designed that way simply fall off me). These are very flattering!
