For decades I have purchased Relaxed Fit jeans. It's just dawned on me you no longer carry them. Any substitute, like this Traditional, doesn't fit properly. I notice that the three cotton jeans styles (or is it two) L.L. is selling have the same garment description: waist fits high. Someone at L.L. Bean is dropping the ball on marketing this time-honored, reliable product. I am dismayed! I would think this product could go on being popular forever as the baby boomers age.
I’ve been an LL customer for over 20 years and the traditional jeans, original fit have been a wardrobe staple. I have small hips and ankles so I enjoy the tapered style of LL traditional jeans but as a middle-aged woman, I also appreciate the higher waistband.
I could always rely on consistent sizing until recently. Now it depends on the color of jeans I buy. The stonewashed run big and the black run small. The stonewashed do not shrink and the black ones shrink a lot.
I finally ordered a 6 petite for the stonewashed and 8 regular in black. They both fit me, but the size 8 in black has a smaller waist than the size 6 in stonewashed. Huh? Did I receive jeans from a bad batch? I don't know. All I know for certain is that I don't trust LL sizing charts anymore.
The black fabric is different from the black denim of a few years ago. The old black denim was just like the blue denim and did not pick up lint or pet hair. The black denim in current use is a pet hair and lint magnet. I have a clean house but I still keep a lint brush in several rooms. It is annoying how often I have to brush the black jeans. The black jeans pick up lint from a wool sweater, coat and even facial tissue. Beware of washing them with anything besides black or navy and never wash them with socks of any color. You simply cannot remove the lint micro particles.
I still like these jeans enough to order more, but sadly, I no longer love them. I gave them 3 stars instead of five because of the inconsistent sizing and lint-attracting black material. Thankfully, LL customer service remains the best in the business.
I bought countless pairs of the double L jeans in the past because the natural fit size twelve tall fit me like they had been custom made and I adored them. I am 5' 11" with long torso, high rise, and it had taken years to find these wonderful jeans. Then LL Bean changed the design for whatever reason and they are now Hideous! Baggy and ugly, material and design...so disappointed! Now have to start all over again as all my old beloved LL jeans are falling apart...
If these fit great in the past, they will NOT now.

When these jeans were classic they fit perfectly. Now since they are "traditional", they are a different size.
Despite saying "The same great Double L Jeans you've known and relied on for years" -- they are NOT the same. They are now a different size. (Cut with less material and smaller in the waist). And different material. And a little different cut. [The rise is different and the legs are less tapered]. That is a lot of "difference" to be "the same". Maybe LL Bean should get a dictionary???
It is very irritating when the maker of your favorite jeans changes the size so it no longer fits well. Especially when that firm is a mail order firm, where customers CANNOT try on clothes in advance, but rely upon website information (e.g., these are the same") and prior experience for sizing. EPIC FAIL. I would not be surprised if these have higher returns than usual. (I'll probably keep mine -- but won't buy again).
I see a lot of 1 star ratings on this website. I wonder if an LL Bean employee will ever read them and incorporate them into their business? Time will tell.
