This jacket is great for traveling - it is very lightweight and takes up hardly any room. I also use it at home for when it rains. My sister has one of these jackets, too, and she uses it as her spring jacket (not just for rain). Be aware that this is not one of those "breathable" jackets that lets out air while repelling water. If you try to wear it when it is warm it will feel clammy. Overall, I am very happy with this jacket.
I put this jacket to the test back in my college days. My dorm was quite a distance from campus and it seemed to rain - a lot! I would head out wearing this jacket and by the time I made it to class, my feet and backpack would be waterlogged, but the rest of me was totally dry. The hood is the best feature. This jacket never failed me all those years ago and it is still going strong now. If I ever have to replace it, I am buying another one just like this!
