After purchasing and returning two jackets from an L.L.Bean competitor, I finally found what I was looking for . . . a lightweight rain jacket with a hood and velcro cuffs that my 83-year old mother could layer over her blouse and sweater to protect her from the tropical wind and rain in Hawaii. She loves it and wears it all the time! And I love it, too, because it fits her perfectly and makes her look 30 years younger!
I decided to got this rain coat over other styles because of other reviewers singing it's praise...boy where they correct! It is a great coat and unlike a traditional rain coat you dont feel like your sweating to dealth in it. The fit is VERY generous so if you want a snugger fit order a size smaller. I loved the coat so much I ordered my Mom one to bring on our trip to Ireland this summer! She was very happy with it as well.
This jacket is exactly as advertised. It fits nicely and is as water repellent as I will ever need. It is not warm so I would recommend wearing it over a heavy sweater or fleece item if it is cold as well as rainy.
I love this jacket! I use it all the time for dog walks, mountain biking, and cross country skiing. Works well over my LL Bean fleece jacket to keep me warm and dry even in very windy and wet weather. It is well made, light weight, & packs easily--I take it on all trips. The two-way zipper and velcro closure option makes it very versatile. The hood is big enough to fit over a hat. I have the navy color. Am considering it for gifts to others.
