finally a well made backpack large enough for my middle schooler and high schooler's books and binders. lots of room, functional pockets. only imperfection, the cargo area on bottom. when bottom area is empty, backpack wants to fall over when set on floor. if the back padding ended at top of cargo area or had a creased area so back padding could bend there so backpack can sit on floor without falling over it would be perfect.
This is the SECOND pack I've bought. I got one for my 15 yo girl last year who has a wicked reputation of going through 2-3 packs a year. It's still looking brand new, so I bought one in a different color for my 9 yo girl, who in fourth grade has tons of books, boots and other stuff to lug around. Both agree that this pack is roomy, comfortable to carry, and very durable. One thing they love is the ability to carry shoes in the bottom without getting other stuff yucky. I told them both to pick their favorite color, cause I expect these to last and last!
I am surprised at the amount of room contained within this backpack. I use it primarily for commuting back and forth to work. I have stuffed it as much as I can and still have room. It held my laptop, lunch, thermos (LLBean), shoes, two water bottles, and a notebook. I will say that when filled it is heavy but the pads make the wear more comfortable. It was worth the money. LL Bean back packs last forever - and if for some odd reason, it should wear too quickly - LL Bean really does stand behind their guarantee, and will replace if a zipper is broken, etc. This monogrammable pack is great for kids starting at about the 5th grade, and can be used all the way up though High School. My son is 16, and has had one since he was 6th Grade & my younger son has one too....the zippered section at the bottom is great for extra sneakers for sports, &/or gym/sports clothing, etc. During the winter in VT, it's great to be able to have boots worn to school/at recess, etc., and sneakers/shoes to put on while they're inside.
