This backpack is excellent. We bought two of them at the same time. One for our pre-kinder child and the other our 1st grader. These backpaks are large enough to hold the items required for a 2nd and maybe even a third grader. Back packs are sturdy and well padded at the areas that touches the child. Highly recommend it....not to mention the absolutely excellent LL Bean warranty
I bought this pack for my 3 year old son that goes to church preschool 3 days a week. I was nervous about giving him this since he was so attached to his "baby" tractor bag. When he got it in the mail he LOVED it! He wore it the whole day! It is the perfect size for him and I believe we will be able to use it for early elementary school also. I was worried it would be too large or too small but it is perfect. He carries a folder and a change of clothes and that all fits perfectly. It would also easily fit a few smaller books. I would highly recommend this pack! We are actually purchasing another one for our daughter. Why not start out with the best!
Dreaming of the monogrammed backpack my mother bought me when I went off to school, I ordered one in my son's favorite color to pack him off to kindergarten. I still use my own durable pack, years later as a book and tool bag for long trips, and an overnight bag for short ones or flights.
It's been through really rough conditions, but has protected my tough gear and delicate pages faithfully for over 25 years now. The key hook and internal pockets for ids, change, etc. make it easy to find things when speed is important in the field. The color is a little bright. I wish there were a dark green option, but my boy likes it just fine.
The only reason I didn't give the backpack 5 stars is that it is missing netting on the sides to hold water bottles, and a thinner paper/book pocket as the standard pack has. It would be nice to have a good spot for water away from papers, clothes or gear that shouldn't get wet. It would also be nice to have a pocket for my son's homework folder separate from the large open pocket for clothes and such.
I'll buy the larger size in a year or two when this one gets too small.
We bought the Shark Junior pack for our 3 yr old son. He's not in school but want to be just like his big sister : ) It is so cute & bright!
We had a pink Junior pack for our daughter that she used for 3 yrs. Pre-K, Kinder & 1st grade. She's tall and needed a larger one this yr for 2 nd grade so we bought the Original pack.
