I live in the uk and i bought this back pack for my son who is 4years old and starting full time school in sept. i also love back packs so ordered one for myself in girly pink. They arrived within 2 weeks and the quality is excellent. Just wish ll bean would open a store in the uk .
I got my first LL Bean back pack when I was freshman in high school almost twenty years ago. I still have the *same* back pack and it's in pretty good shape even after high school, college, and grad school. So, I knew exactly what kind of back pack I was buying for my son who started kindergarten this year. I let him choose the color and he wanted the "Cobalt Orange Shark" print.
He's been using the backpack for a couple of weeks now, and it's working out great! It holds a pronged, 2-pocket folder, marble composition book, and a Transformers lunch bag with room to spare. He has any easy time getting the zippers open and closed and it fits well hanging from the hook inside his locker.
Overall, I am very pleased with the Junior backpack and have confidence it will look just as good as it does now come the end of the school year!
This was our first Bean backpack and I ordered it after reading all the fantastic reviews.
I had this backpack personalized and it turned out to be a great tool to help my little one learn his name and match it up to his cubbie.
He was responsible for hanging it up, making sure his lunch was inside and loading and retreiving his homework from it.. needless to say.. the zippers are small hand friendly and never jumped, jammed or lost teeth. The color remains the same as the day we first received it. He used it Monday through Friday for more than a year, including this year at day camp. It with stood wet swim trunks, sunscreen spills, and the like and still looks incredible.
This year he needs to take a bit more gear with him but this backpack holds a standard sized folder for homework, along with the matching lunchbox and an extra set of clothing with ease. When he used it this summer, it easily held his lunchbox, swim trunks, towel and sunscreen..impressive for a smaller pack!
My only improvement request would be an outside pocket to hold water bottles or Bean canteens but you can attach those with caribiners.. it still rocks!

We ordered the dark blue backback for my oldest son for Kindergarten. This backpack doesn't even compare to the backpacks you find at other stores. The material is high-quality and it's the perfect size for younger kids. We had my son's name put on it and the stitching was good quality as well. I would highly recommend this product.
