My five year-old is using her bag for the 2nd year. It is sturdy and perfectly sized for her age. We loved it so much that we ordered another one for my 3 year-old son. He loves to wear it to pre-school. Plenty of room to hold back-up clothes, a lunch bag and books/homework. I've even ran it through the washer once and it held up beautifully!
If you plan on monograming the bag, I would recommend a solid print vs. floral. It's difficult to see my daughters name mixed with the florals. I ordered a solid for my son and his monogram looks great.
LL Bean has wonderful customer service I might add. Our first bag started to tear at the hook strap. I called LL Bean and they replaced it at no additional cost to me. Have had NO problems with the replacement bag.
My 5 year old has been using this bag for 4 months and the bag looks as if we just opened the box. I ordered the Royal Blue with monogramming. The letters look great. It will hold 2 school folders, a lunch box, sweatshirt and library book in the large pocket with plenty of room. No problems with this book bag. May order another one for next year just so he can have another color.
Purchased for Pre-K student, age 4. It is lightweight enough for her small frame, but roomy enough for extra clothing and school supplies. Love it and plan to use it for early elementary as well.
I purchased this backpack for my fourth grader. It's way too small. It would be good for 1st grade through 3rd maybe. Going forward I'd suggest a bigger backpack.
