This back pack will last forever! No matter how rough it is treated, it will not tear or come apart. I have grandaughters that are "tomboys" and this back pack holds up all year long. I just order new ones because they want to change colors. I pass old ones down to other people and they enjoy them too! Thanks LL Bean. You have a great product.
Last year we bought the original book pack in red camo for our 2nd grader. After a year of use and being stepped on many times on the floor of the bus it still looks brand new. We have had terrible luck with "average" back packs, often having to replace them at christmas each year. This year I am buying two more original packs for my first grader and kindergartener.
I bought one of these backpacks for my kindergartener and one for my second grader. The problem with the pack is that a flap of material gets caught in the zipper. My kindergartener constantly got the zipper caught in the fabric so that it would not open or close. This happened so many times that the zipper broke. The pack worked fine with my second grader. I would not recommend this type of pack for younger kids.
I love the LLBean backpacks for their design and incredible durability. Though I admit I am looking around this year at others because I wish it had a side pocket for a water bottle!
