This backpack is so sturdy. I can see it lasting for a very long time unlike most backpacks for the kids including high end brands. The only reason I gave 4 stars is that I wish it came with a water bottle holder on the side.
Something about the material of this backpack makes the zipper get stuck constantly. There is a flap of material that folds over the zipper, and unless you fold it back you're going to end up with a stuck zipper. After loosening it numerous times, it finally broke and I have to return it. I purchased it on 9/11/15 and am returning it on 11/17/15.
The size is great for holding a lunch box, two snacks and 8x11 folders for a kindergartner's school work.
I bought this backpack for my oldest son when he was in 2nd grade. He used it and abused it right up through the end of high school, at which time my second son started using it. More use and real abuse and it has only now broken a zipper. With the weight of the books these kids carry today and the way these packs get thrown around, I wouldn't be surprised to have gone through 2 packs a year. Instead, this one lasted (and is still going-for the most part, although a bit worse for the wear) for almost 15 years. This is only one of the reasons why I buy LLBean.
Overall the backpack is fine - sturdy, cute design but there is not a holder on the side for a water bottle. It is so frustrating. All the kids brings water bottles to school. And unless you tighten the bottle just right they can leak - onto books and papers. Wish I could return but we've used it a bunch already. I thought this was a standard feature of backpacks these days.
