I suspected that if I spent a little more on a durable and quality L.L. Bean book pack, it would last the entire school year and it didn't let me down or really surprise me. We aren't repairing, replacing or limping the old packs through the final weeks of school this year and that relieves some stress for all of the family.
I bought the red backpack for my son but am disappointed that the coloring looks slightly raspberryish in tint. I think it is because of the gray/silver monogram and reflector plus the greenish/khaki zipper trim. I just doesn't look like the red red on the website.
We should have gone with the blue pack but since ours is monogrammed, it can't be returned.
The pack is Excellent but the color is why I took off a star...not as true as the site shows.

Since my kids have a latex (rubber) allergy, I needed a backpack without elastic on it. This backpack met my needs and is the only one that ever lasted more than one school year. I purchased the Original size for my first-grader and the Junior size for my kindergartener last year. Now the kids are almost through the second year of use and the backpacks are still as good as new. I am buying the next size up for my son, since he outgrew the Junior backpack before it wore out. Very good value.
My only concern is that the color of the thread makes the monogramming look camouflaged. My child has been using the backpack for a week, and has yet to notice her own initials on it.
