I took this hat to the Caribbean on a cruise. It stayed on in the wind and was not hot in the sun. The only thing that annoyed me was that the string around the top of the hat kept coming off when I let the hat slide down my back (rather than taking it off completely), but it probably was not intended to do that anyway. It was squashed in my suitcase but popped back up! My favorite hat.
I ordered this hat for two trips that I will be taking this year, in desert environments, under a lot of sun. I am very pleased with how well this hat fits, as I have a large head (no kidding here!) and I have had a difficult time of finding hats that fit. It's great that this hat is crushable and packable, and I appreciatae the adjustable strap that comes with it. The color is wonderful, feminine, but not at all loud.
I have owned three of these one-size-fits all hats. LOVED THEM until now. One went to Turkey and Cyprus with me scrunched in a suitcase. I give them away and have to get new ones. This one I bought in Feb 2010 is ENORMOUS. I like to wear these low and straight on my head, but this one sits on the bridge of my nose. It looks like I'm playing "dress up".
Being a pale red-head, I'm somewhat of a sun hat authority. This is a good, basic, wide-brimmed hat that does seem to regain its shape quiet easily after being "squashed". I love that it can accommodate a larger noggin and like the head band lining too. But I wish they would re-design the wimpy leather draw cord. I need a hat that will stay on in the wind, so I don't want to forgo the adjustable chin cord. However the leather is so thin and slippery that the little wooden toggle bead allows the leather cord to slide right through. Other than that, it's a good hat!
