I was at the St Pete Fl airport and left my LL bean hat there, oh was I mad at myself. I had had that hat for over 10 years! So I replaced it with this one. I was unsure if I would like the new one, as it is not rigid like my old one. But this one is fab. It is made VERY well, has a sturdy string and a sweatband. I am happy with this new hat, I hope I do NOT lose this one.
I've owned two of these hats for several years, the rose color and the tidal blue. The rose pink one is actually more a soft coral/salmon/peach with pink included than a true pink. I removed the ties as I think they make a hat look too 'rustic'. The pink/coral color has held up very well. The tidal blue one, however, (which is much more a tourquoise/aqua than a true blue -- in fact, I couldn't wear that one with anything a true blue) has faded badly and in a short time. I'm very disappointed with that one for that reason. Both hats are great shape and with removing the ties and adding a cluster of soft artificial flowers with ribbons dangling over the brim on one side, the hats are really quite elegant while still retaining a casual flair. I would buy colors other than the straw color if they were available.
Wow! Was I ever pleased with this hat! From previous reviews I had thought the string tie might be something of a nuisance, but I see no need to bring up the closing bead tightly under my chin. It will serve the purpose of not flying off, loosely fastened. The fit of the hat is perfect, color (coral) is so becoming. Goodness, I was amazed to see my 74-year old face looking so flattered! I will, however, be careful not to expose this hat to the rain. It's going to Hawaii with me next month!
A very nice solution to an afternoon in the sun! The narrow leather cord can easily be tucked up into the crown of the hat until a stiff breeze comes up! It's light weight and comfortable to wear!
