I bought one pair of shorts to try --- some reviews have said that they run small.
For size reference I am a 33w w/ an athletic build, 5-10 and 170#. My thighs are big enough that I don't wear 501 jeans because the legs are bit too tight.
I ordered a medium and found the shorts to fit perfectly with plenty of room to spare both in the waist and the legs. I also like that they dry/wick quickly during intense workouts.
I have since ordered 2 more pairs of shorts so I can rotate through the wash, etc.
Great length for shorter guys - I got the six inch inseam for my grandson. Only problem was the drawstring was hard for him to get tied securely enough. Work OK as shorts but slid down when diving.
I previously bought about 6 pairs of these shorts that fit perfect. I recently bought a large, my normal size for a 36 waist and the things dropped to my ankles. What happened to the elastic in the waist as it is almost nonexistent? If I don't tie the drawstring tight, I'm going to be greatly embarrassed in public. I think L.L. Bean better QC the manufacturing specs because they are way off. Never had such a fit problem with the old shorts.
As a retired Floridian most of the year I live in this sort of shorts/swimming suit. These are comfortable, quick drying and a great value. The pockets make these more than just swimming suits.
