This is an attractive clock with retro styling and seems to be well made. However, it was not what I expected. I had hoped for a steady light that gradually brightened the room. (I may have confused this product with another clock LLBean once carried.) This gives a flashing LED light to awaken you. I did not find this feature to be a distinctive advantage, so I won't be keeping the clock.
I ordered one clock in July and I tested the alarms, etc and it seemed to work fine. I never did use the alarm so I can't really say that it was dependable or accurate. However, the other day, the alarm came on all by itself even though it had never been set and it would not shut off at all. So, I called Bean and they sent a replacement which I received today. Out of the box, the alarm was defective and none of the controls on the back worked properly except for the backlight switch. I tested the alarm once again and the bell never worked at all but the blinking light did come on. The problem is that the blinking light stayed on even after turning off the alarm. I contacted a Westclox distributor who told me that they were now using a new factory and that the problems should be resolved soon. However, I'm now out of 80 dollars and I have no clock at all and can't afford another one until I get a refund. LL Bean should remove these clocks immediately from their inventory. Save yourself the money and mostly the headache. This clock is very expensive junk!!
I actually have the original Moonbeam clock and wanted a replacement. Well it failed on all accounts -except looks maybe. The light does not go on except during the alarm, so it can't be used as a night light. This one I received the alarm did not work except on batteries. Plugged into AC the alarm did not go on. When it is solely on batts. then the alarm sound only goes on and not the light. I would not recommend this item at all. One of my first LLBean products that I ever rated a one star and would not recommend.
