The description does mention battery backup but also should say that this is an electric clock--a concern, for example, for those with an older house and only two outlets per room! I ordered two; the second was a replacement for the first one that was slightly shopworn with scratches. The clock would be "cuter" if it were smaller. The backlit dial is handy and the main reason I bought it.
I love this clock. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because you can only hit snooze for up to one hour, then it won't go off again. It's the second one I purchase and I love the update from the old one--the snooze bar is bigger!
Great clock but note it does make a ticking noise and the alarm is VERY loud. Hence the name, but I'm too young to remember anything but a beeping digital alarm clock so this was a surprise to say the least.
