After owning a Moonbeam for numerous years, it suddenly stopped working and I ordered a replacement. The week it took to get it was horrible waking up to an alarm and not the gentle blinking light. Now, since it's arrived, I'm praying I find someone to fix my old Moonbeam. The new one's light is faint, which doesn't wake me. The snooze is no longer 5 minutes, it's 10 and when you go to adjust the times, the backlight blinks on and off.
The Moon Beam Clock is worth the money. It's pleasant to wake up with a soft light flashing light instead of a audible alarm. At first my husband thought I was 'over the top' paying $40 for an alarm clock. NOW he won't consider using anything BUT this alarm clock.
I purchased this clock to replace an original Moonbeam clock (circa 1940) -- we loved the old clock, but wanted something with a lighted dial. If it is possible, we like this clock better than the original. The lighted dial is wonderful -- just the right brightness. There is something comforting about it.
There is only one negative to this great clock -- there is a snooze button (good), but the word "snooze" is printed in black letters on it (bad). The lettering takes away from the clean lines of the clock.
If all I wanted was a stylish clock, this would be great. But I also needed it to be an alarm clock and, for me, it doesn't serve that purpose at all. I have poor hearing (I wear hearing aids by day, but am normally able to wake up using an alarm clock (I use a keywind Big Ben) or a clock radio. But I couldn't hear the moonbeam clock's alarm well enough to wake up. I purchased this clock based on the catalog/LL Bean website description and customer reviews, which repeatedly described it as having a loud alarm bell. That may have been true for the older product, before updating to the softer, kinder, and more gentle LED-lighted model, but it certainly isn't true for the version that is currently available. Since customer product reviews are published on the LL Bean website, I consider them part of the product description, espectially when they are heavily skewed positively as the ones for this clock are. Based on that, I would have to say that this clock doesn't perform as described. If I could still get one of the older models of this clock, though, I would.
