Some have complained about the alarm being loud. To me it isn't. Not any more than most alarm clocks. I do wish though that it could be turned off more easily instead of having to hunt around for the tiny on/off switch on the back.
I have to be up before daylight every morning and have always found it so hard to get going. This clock is exactly what I needed...the light does gently wake me up and then let me snooze a bit longer! I love it and it was very much worth every cent!!
I love this clock! It flashes before the actual alarm goes off. Warning - the actual alarm will wake the dead!!! It's beautifully made and goes fantastic with my decor!! The first clock died after two weeks but the replacement seems to be fine.
I am a big fan of these clocks and have gone through a couple. However, this newest version has an LED light rather than the 25 watt bulb the previous version had. The LED emits a very dim, bluish light that I can't see through my eyelids even if I am awake, so it certainly is not waking me before the alarm goes off, which is a great feature of the old version. I love the look of the clock and have ordered two of the older discontinued model hoping they will last. Sorry, L.L. Bean, but I will be returning the LED version to you as soon as the 25 watt version arrives in the mail. Very unsatisfied.

As you point out, the LED bulb is not as bright as the 25-watt version. On the plus side, it is more energy efficient and lasts longer than the previous bulb.
